VHS helps animals in desperate need every single day!

Injured Collie

VHS helps animals needing emergency medical attention and/or spay/neuter through our McVitie, Punky & Jamie and Punky Funds.

Animal guardians on low or fixed income are sometimes faced with unexpected and substantial veterinary costs when their animal is injured or suddenly ill. Whenever possible VHS will assist with emergency financial assistance to help with veterinary costs and ensure an animal gets the necessary medical treatment he or she needs. Lives and limbs are saved thanks to these interventions.

We also help animals who find themselves homeless. Rescue groups or shelters can quickly become overwhelmed, so we try to help out when resources are available.

Injured Collie

In the past, two of our generous donors have offered help in the form of a 'Challenge Grant' - matching donations dollar for dollar, up to an agreed-upon amount. This has helped immensely - in 2009, for instance, VHS spent nearly $80,000 to help 288 animals, including 145 spays and neuters! Conditions treated included broken bones, dental disease, urinary blockages, poisoning, ear mites, intestinal disease, and dozens of other problems. This means that 288 animals not only were assisted back to health, but they stayed in their loving homes.

*The McVitie Fund was established by a VHS donor in memory of a very special ginger tabby named, of course, McVitie. He was rescued after being left to die on a beach in Portugal. McVitie was brought back to Canada and lived out the wonderful life every cat deserves, in a loving, forever home. When he passed away, his guardian established the fund to help other cats, who find themselves, through no fault of their own, needing emergency medical aid.
