Tina Update
Date: November 12, 2003
Tina’s progress has been described as “nothing short of miraculous” by her carers at the Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee. Her ‘head bobbing’, which indicates stress, has virtually disappeared and she is happier and healthier than ever. She continues to receive medication and treatment for her troublesome feet, but they are steadily healing. In recent weeks Tina has spent a lot of time indoors, which is helping the healing process. She has been content to remain inside, as she has plenty of toys to keep her occupied. More importantly she has made friends with the other elephants at the sanctuary, who have welcomed her as part of the herd.
Tina is now getting the care, companionship and freedom she deserves, thanks to everyone who supported her move from the Greater Vancouver Zoo to the sanctuary.
The latest information on Tina’s progress, including some amazing pictures, can be seen at the Elephant Sanctuary’s web page ‘Tina’s Diary’.

Tina left the Greater Vancouver Zoo on August 8. As these pictures show, she was a little nervous about getting into the truck that would take her to the Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee. In fact, it took four hours before she was eventually coaxed in! After that it was plain sailing. She arrived safely at the sanctuary on August 11 and, so far, is doing well. She has met other elephants, ventured into the sanctuary grounds and enjoyed all the attention she is getting.
